Gary Alexander, Charles Nelson and Robert Spiegel

Robert Spiegel started studying Karate, Kung Fu, and other related martial arts in 1972. His desire to take a more serious approach to martial arts lead him to Shihan Gary Alexander and Isshinryu Karate in 1984, and to self-defense Master Charles Nelson in 1987. Mr. Spiegel continued with Mr. Nelson until his retirement in early 1998.

In addition to Isshinryu Plus, Robert Spiegel is also teaching Charles Nelson’s method of Self-Defense, a street based system, perfected by Mr. Nelson, for over 50 years in New York City. In November of 2000, Shihan Gary Alexander promoted Mr. Spiegel to 6th Dan, and in December of the same year Mr. Nelson designated Mr. Spiegel exclusively to be his successor of the Charles Nelson Self-Defense Systems in order to teach his self-defense concepts worldwide. Mr. Spiegel is also a member of IAMA (International Association of Martial Arts).

Mr. Spiegel currently teaches the Nelson Self-Defense System and conducts seminars on anti-terrorism techniques, military self-defense, anti-rape and street fighting.
